Twenty-Six

Twenty-Six

26 characters are all I have
to express the emptiness and joy,
the throbbing and the ecstasy.

26 characters bracketed, dashed,
lined, paragraphed, grouped
and end-stopped periodically.

26 characters tussled and tossed
like chicken bones thrown
by a Shaman seeking truth.

26 characters carefully queued
and collated with a chary caution;
lined horizontally and stacked vertically.

26 characters afloat in my soup;
they jump from the spoon
and refuse to be digested.

26 characters are all I have
to express my love and endurance;
my desire for but a glimpse of you.

its all in what you do with that limited number of characters....some days it is enough, some days we want for more...and struggle on to capture...pretty cool piece man....

Amazing what can be done, and what has already been done through the ages, with just 26 characters.

You have written the importance of something we so often take for granted -- 26 characters. The last stanza is sad....but so gut-level real!

I love the lines " 26 characters tussled and tossed
like chicken bones thrown
by a Shaman seeking truth." Sometimes when I write, I feel like I'm just tossing characters around the page!

I only need to use 15 of them to tell you how good this is...

...and the amazing thing is that 26 characters are all we need... i also think the same when it comes to music...12 tones...that's it...and millions and millions of different, gripping, wonderful melodies..

26 characters, yes...but you have grasped the secret how to arrange them.

Joining those characters, as much as possible, sight, spoken words, (inflections, stresses)
tell more of the story sometimes.
Thanks for your visit.
