Out of Chaos

Out of Chaos

In the time before time,
while I swam the Tethys Sea,
and wandered the plains of Pangaea,
you were there, igneous and undefined.

Through the Laramide epoch,
Chronos, Chaos and tectonic slip
worked their orogenic magic
and Gaia’s labor gave birth to you.

Into the Cretaceous I watched,
as a deep slow subduction,
drove you, compelled you upward
out of the plains and into my view.

I have crossed the alluvial sands,
and braved the ice of the Pleistocene
to lie with you by the glow of caldera heat,
and be quenched by your glacial waters

Dance with me, 'round the ring of fire,
and explore the depths of Mariana.
Sit with me atop continental divides
until we are rendered, consumed again by Vulcan

Gravity & Love

Gravity & Love

Gravitation; a theoretical construct
and a general term describing
the phenomenon by which bodies
with mass are attracted to one another.
Modern physics describes gravitation
using Einstein's General Theory
of Relativity
, in which gravitation
is a consequence of the curvature
of space-time. Newton's law of universal
gravitation is suitable for most basic
calculations, but neither Newton
nor Einstein were able to objectively
measure or observe the gravitational
waves they postulated.

Love; a utilitarian societal construct
and a general term describing
the phenomenon by which people
with emotions are drawn to each other.
Like gravitation, love is unquantifiable,
it is postulated based on evidential
artifacts and observed behaviors.
For example my ex-wife and I:
We know that a pair existed,
and we assume they were in love,
because the coupling created
an artifact (my daughter) though
no evidence is currently available
since husband and anti-husband
destroyed each other not long after
said artifact came into existence.

Sirius

Sirius

As strange attractors
we danced together
in the southern sky,
like a stellar parallax;
singular or differentiated
dependent on point of view.

Across the summer night
radial velocity increased
as we approached critical mass;
the unavoidable orbital decay
of love on the event horizon.

From this elliptical apex
I can see how your luminosity
has eclipsed me, your gravity
overwhelms; pulls me in.
Even as my weakened mass
is drawn once again
to your side.

“What is seen as the brightest star in the night sky is in truth two bodies moving together; a bright main star termed Sirius A, and her companion, a faint white dwarf”.

Excruciating Atoms

Excruciating Atoms

I tried
to calculate
the weight of sorrow;
break it down
to its component parts.

Duplicate fermions
were assumed
to be irrelevant
based on Pauli’s spin.
Intrinsic angular
momentums
were observed
and each element
was cataloged
and classified.

Heartbreak (Hb7)
was a constant
as was Loss (Gn3)
and its partner
Pain (Ow4).

Each
excruciating atom
was taken into account
right down to the quark.

The final analysis
determined
that up and down,
charm and strange
failed to add up
to the collective mass
required to account
for this leaden feeling
in my chest.

Pome Eighty One (81)

Pome Eighty One (81)

Daydreams turn to weak
aspirations long before
the monthly bills come
due you spend your time
wisely or did I see you
ask for change--Absurd
SoHo poets don’t think
so you better watch out
or you may drown in the
stream of consciousness
is the apex of Abraham’s
need I say more--Abstract
shun intangible images
as they are crutches for
the simple mind your
metaphors and similarly
beware the march I’d
love another drink--Imbibe
