Fractal Memories

Fractal Memories

The Burden of Time
distorts memories;
blonde pilsner days
and coffee nights
of years gone by
foul and turn cold
when left unattended.

The shimmer and glint
of sunlight on water ripples,
dulls as it rolls away
in thoughtless waves.

The faces of loves
left and lost splinter
into slivers of regret
and flout recall; a puzzle
never again complete
for too many pieces
are now lost or broken.

pilsner days and coffee nights...great descriptors through out...

Loved the metaphor of time as something organic that decays, and the truth of that last stanza is unerring. Time leaves nothing whole.

Time plays out as a realist painting and fades to an impressionist or post impressionist one. Just dots of the days with many dots in the wrong places or missing entirely. Loved the clarity of your images. Spot on. Excellent. Gay @beachanny

Yes, details of the memories fade, but the traces of the feelings are often left behind. Evocative one shot.

Very thought provoking post. Time does decay, just as some relationships do. Pain fades just as the memories do, but as someone else said above, feelings do not. Thanks for sharing.

Like this, blonde pilsner image.

Bits, pieces, refracted with time. Where did it go, when did it slip away?

Beautiful and rather haunting, poem.

The title is interesting (and maybe playful?)--the notion of "fractal" suggests something mathematical, or the way rock fractures along certain lines and planes, and the final notion of lost and splintered puzzle pieces plays into this as well; all of this bumps up against the notion of the softer and inexact (the haze of memory, the "pilsener nights"). Intriguing and well-built work.

Randall quoted the lines I was going to, this is lean and vivid writing. Well done.

Damn, I wanted to be original in my comment, but seems the image i like is the one everyone else does,

blonde pilsner days
and coffee nights

Really stands out. Nice job painting us a picture while expressing the theme.
