Skiathos

Skiathos

On pure white sands
we tested our endurance;
speaking in tongues
and dead languages.
Eros, diligo, blysia, expeto;
lost words moaned
between half gasps
and screams in the dark.

We measured time
in moon shadows,
broken promises
and scars from lovers
long gone. In the glow
of muted embers
waves crashed
against the past;
a persistent hope
in the darkness.

Ethereal in places as opposed to lightweight; there is a definite turn in tone from the first stanza to the second, where there is a distinct undertone of sadness, or longing for something lost. Well-conceived, well-executed.

I've been to Skiathos and her black magic beaches...this is what I found...long walks in moonlight over black sand and a magic no one could ever take away. SMG you're truly amazing for stirring these memories!

You've captured fancy and fantasy. The beauty of dream like love and the eternal beauty in artistically trying to realize it. Excellent write. Gay @beachanny

Nothing is more evocative than a beahc, the ocean, and a trial by fire in the flesh...I was back at a Point Reyes of years gone by, myself, after the first few lines. Thanks for blowing on the embers.

Wow, if it wasn't for line 5, this would have read like another 'at the beach with my lover' poem. Ah, but that line 5 shades everything else so well. Excellent restraint & really, bravo on the risky gambit. Paid off imo.

Profound thoughts, well expressed in poignant lines yet tight and beautifully exposed. Excellent mind stirring piece :)
