I Know I Failed
Sometimes at night when I chance to dream,
I see your face on that movie screen,
Mystery and danger, in your eyes
I see the sun and summer sky
But I’m in the dark and we both know why
Night is my prison, the price of my lies
Pushing ‘gainst the blackness
Screaming at the night
The painful memories, of holding you tight
I know I failed…
and know that put you through hell
I know I failed…
and can’t believe how far I fell
I plead with the sun to hold back the night
Was I so wrong that nothing can make it right
Your memory is fading as the days go by
My prayers likes leaves in the autumn wind
Is there no penance for a mortal sin
The look you gave me, the price of my lies
Pushing ‘gainst the blackness
Screaming at the night
The painful memories, of holding you tight
I know I failed…
and know that put you through hell
I know I failed…
and can’t believe how far I fell
Yes I know I failed
Pushing ‘gainst the blackness
Screaming at the night
The painful memories, of holding you tight
I know I failed…
and know that put you through hell
I know I failed…
and can’t believe how far I fell

love that I can hear music in my head on your refrain.
so--- it must be really lyrical.
Black thoughts at night never seem that bad when you get up. Why are we so hard on ourselves when we examine our past?
nice...i can def hear it as well...dark and moody...i could hear a voice like cohens maybe...the rhymes give this a nice movement...
nice flow....
So, I'm reading yours and listening to "Like a Rolling Stone" at the same time and yours kind of feels like it could have the same vibe.
flows nicely..........
Oh Steven - this is so you, yet, somehow I see Bogart and hear Bublé singing this. It's dark, edgy, confessional, and yet through it all so real, so appealing, so attractive. A real film noir of a song! Kudos.
What a wonderful dark poem... love how it moves like music.
fun-- i just had my guitar next to me - and grabbed it and sang your poem... smiles
how's life?
